Georgie graduated the IHS Nutritional Therapy Diploma in 2015
Prior to completing her IHS Diploma in Nutritional Therapy, Georgie set up a practice consulting as a dietary counsellor concentrating on weight loss and practical healthy eating for families. Georgie currently runs her private practice “Zest Nutrition” in Nutritional Therapy from a calm garden room at her home which also gives her the opportunity to get practical in the kitchen.
Georgie previously qualified as a cook from the famous Ballymaloe cookery school where her true passion for real, local, seasonal, organic food really began. Her journey continued and bought her to IHS to learn about the true healing possibilities of food and good nutrition. Bringing the right healing foods for you into tasty easy meals and adapting your favourite existing recipes to be of most benefit to you is where Georgie really excels.
Georgie also runs regular cookery demos and gives private cookery lessons. If you think healthy food will be boring, limiting and bland Georgie will certainly change these preconceptions.
After graduating in 2012, I immediately started to build my dietary coaching business. My goal was to set it up in Singapore, which has proven challenging, but I’ve managed! To be honest, the first year of business operations was not easy, but it turned out to be very rewarding in the end. Today, I run a busy weight loss practice for executives, helping them to lose weight effectively and optimise their wellbeing.
My particular interest lays in finding personalised weight loss strategies that suit individual lifestyle and offer lasting results (especially for those who travel a lot and eat in restaurants). I coach individuals on a one-on-one basis, offering practical solutions such as food shopping, personalised diet plans, restaurant menu reviews and so on. It is so rewarding to see my clients’ transformation right before my eyes!!
Right now I am in the process of hiring a PA and in 2015 I have plans to recruit a part-time nutrition consultant. I am also planning to introduce public seminars in Singapore, which will entail practical and hands-on education for healthy eating and sustainable weight loss.
Since graduating Dietary Counselling, Anne has set up a busy Body Composition Management and Sports Performance Clinic at the Primary Care Centre in Roscommon Town. Anne’s special interests are weight management and Functional Sports Nutrition using dietary analysis tools and nutrient dense foods to optimise health and performance. Anne is especially interested in the negative long-term effects of stress on adrenal function and optimal health in athletic groups. Her work to date includes private weight loss consultations, personalised nutrition plans for recreational and elite athletes, corporate nutrition talks, sports nutrition talks for many local sports clubs and school nutrition talks on topics such as nutrition and stress management for exam students and parents. Anne has recently joined the sports nutrition team at Genetic Performance, Dublin and Anne also trains IHS students on body composition and calliper skin fold testing. Anne is currently a 3rd year Nutritional Therapy student and her passions are teaching and public speaking.
Having graduated from the IHS in April 2014; after 3 years of some of the most interesting learning as well as the hardest, I have started building my business ‘Live Young Longer’. Initially I am attracting clients who have longstanding digestive and weight gain issues, but my intention is to build my business focusing on skincare and chronic auto immune conditions, adapting my knowledge of functional medicine to incorporate the hypnotherapy I have practiced in the past and use reflexology as part of the healing process. At present I work both from home and a Sports Therapist’s office, promoting my business by word of mouth via various networking events and speaking opportunities, to small groups on relevant subjects, such as stress and the plethora of related health problems. My website is under consideration and I am using my Facebook page initially to develop my presence online. And blogging is something I intend to launch later in the year as I increase my collection of testimonials from happy clients. Continual training and developing business relationships with fellow NT’s, nutritionists and naturopaths is very important to me. The joy and surprise clients have when simple changes make dramatic improvements to their health is worth the hard work.
“Following my 14 year old sons diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes, I decided to take it upon myself to better educate myself in nutrition. I researched various course options and chose to study with Institute of Health Science through distance learning. As a busy working mum, this was the perfect option for me as I could study at a time that was convenient to me. Although I have to admit at times it was difficult to motivate myself, but I thoroughly enjoyed the learning.
In August 2013 I received my Certificate in Dietary Counselling. The qualification has greatly benefitted me both personally and professionally. I have made huge changes to my own and my family’s diet and have seen positive results in weight control, energy and health.
Presently I work part time in The Healthy Way in Leixlip, where I can see clients on a one to one basis but my passion is facilitating group talks, which I have done so with a number of organisations.
The Certificate in Dietary Counselling which initially began as a personal mission has opened up new and exciting opportunities for me and I look forward to assisting others to make positive dietary and lifestyle changes.”
My attraction to the Dietary Counselling: Health & Nutrition course stemmed from my own personal health problems including digestive, fatigue and a gluten intolerance. This course helped me to learn and understand the workings of the human body and also how to change diet and lifestyle to improve health and wellbeing.
I set up my own Nutrition practice in September 2013. I work on a part-time basis from Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick and Tralee, Co. Kerry. I am absolutely thrilled to be in a position to help others feel better both physically and mentally by guiding them through dietary and lifestyle change. There is nothing more rewarding than a client returning to report how good they feel after implementing my programme! After all, that is my aim, to use the knowledge that I have gained with the Institute of Health Sciences to make a difference in the lives of others.

Studying nutrition and setting up my own business has been a fantastic experience for me. It has opened up many avenues that I never thought possible.

“Since qualifying as an IHS Dietary Counsellor in 2013 many opportunities have presented themselves to me. As my husband runs a kettle bell gym we were able to collaborate and run an ‘Operation Transformation’ style weight and wellness course. I offered body composition analysis, food diary analysis, goal setting and group discussion for our clients. I was also able to offer practical advice on balancing blood sugar, the concept behind high and low glycaemic foods, how to read food labels, how to shop and how to meal plan. Our clients love the weekly hand-outs and online support in the form of a private Facebook group and really felt they were learning about nutrition rather than just following a soulless diet plan. Due to this the changes they make are long term, they read labels, they avoid certain aisles in the supermarket and they start to feel better in all aspects of their life. It’s a real privilege to be able to facilitate and support people on this path. I have produced a 20-week e-mail health series for a large multinational company with fantastic feedback and am now also offering Lorisian food intolerance testing with York Tests. I also offer Sports Nutrition and continue to enjoy my Nutritional Therapy studies with IHS.”
Soon after graduating, Joanne set her Nutritional Therapy business Lifeforce Nutrition. She practices out of her local medical centre and a local multi-disciplinary clinic in Ashbourne. Joanne also works with Dr Marilyn Glenville and Positive Nutrition running the popular ‘Fat Around the Middle’ classes, in both Navan and Cavan and also with a local personal trainer, giving talks and meal plans to participants of their weight loss programmes. Joanne also works for IHS in the administration department, where she gives valuable advice to prospective students.
I started working as a nutritional therapist immediately after graduating. I set up my private practice from my home office so that I can take advantage of my family kitchen to give clients practical nutritional information and advice and show them lots of useful tips.
I have also had a lot of opportunities in education. I work with various organisations and pharmaceutical representatives to deliver talks on nutrition and health. I have also done some radio work with a local station on their weekly health slot.
One of my favourite areas of work is community based projects. I deliver a programme that leads a group through eight weeks of lectures on food and health issues with a focus on enabling them to take control of their own health. This is my second year running this programme and demand for the course is still very high – we even have a waiting list!
What I love most about being a nutritional therapist is the ability to empower people to take control of their health. It is an amazing job – or rather a vocation! This qualification has opened up a whole range of opportunities for me. I am really glad that I choose to study with IHS. None of this would have been possible if the training I received was not top-class. Since graduation, I have been excitedly setting up my business as a nutritional therapist and wholefoods cookery instructor. I did a government funded chef’s course after graduation to increase my skills base as I find that healthy cookery is a fantastic way to teach people about the therapeutic benefits of whole foods. The consultations are going great – I’m operating from a medical centre, a sports centre and a room above a health store – which are all great locations for referrals. I have tried to be as proactive as possible in the community by giving talks to triathlon groups, parents of children with learning difficulties etc. as well as writing articles for the local newspapers on a regular basis. What has really amazed me since graduation is the amount of scope in the field of nutrition, there really are endless opportunities. I found the course with IHS really fantastic, the tutors were first class and the material covered gives you great courage to practice confidently. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
